Thermo Systems and Merck & Co. Present Chiller Plant Optimization Paper at Seattle District Energy Conference
Thermo Systems and Merck & Co., Inc. co-presented the Merck West Point, PA B45 Chiller Plant Optimization paper at the International District Energy Association’s annual conference held in Seattle, WA. The paper titled Leveraging Existing Plant PLCs for a Non-Proprietary Solution to Chiller Plant Optimization was presented by Eric Silk, CEM, of Thermo Systems and Michael Nyhan, PE of Merck & Co., Inc.
The Merck West Point campus produces over 60,000 tons of chilled water cooling in 8 separate plants. B54 is a 7,000 ton all electric drive plant serving a 100% outside air research facility. Merck selected Thermo Systems to design, build and deploy a non-proprietary chiller plant optimization package. The project highlights included a annual 2.7MM kW/hr electric reduction, $186,000.00 in annual savings and a 2.4 year ROI. The project achieved a 43% reduction in total average plant KW consumption.
