CLIENT PROFILE
TEVA Pharmaceuticals is a global pharmaceutical company producing general drugs, active pharmaceutical ingredients, and proprietary pharmaceuticals. Located in West Chester, PA, their research and development campus focuses on clinical development and manufacturing processes for complex biological medicines. Within this campus, TEVA faced challenges with their existing Water for Injection (WFI) system, particularly with the Point of Use (POU) valves in the core area and WFI distribution area.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
To address these challenges, TEVA engaged Thermo Systems to design and implement a solution for modifying the Process Utility Control System (PUCS) and Utility Automation System (UAS). This modification would enable TEVA to control and monitor the two POU valves effectively. Thermo Systems provided a comprehensive solution, including developing a submittal package, fabrication and modification of panels, PLC programming, SCADA development, factory testing, startup, and validation. The modifications involved installing a new Remote I/O (RIO) panel for the existing POU valves and modifying the control panel for the POU valves in the WFI distribution area. The Process Utilities Control System utilized Allen Bradley PLC nodes and a Wonderware Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA), with operator interface panels for local control of the process equipment.
TECHNOLOGY HIGHLIGHTS
- CP-1756 PLC Program
- Wonderware InTouch SCADA
- Allen Bradley Input/Output Modules
- Allen Bradley PointIO IP Adapter
RESULTS
Thermo Systems collaborated successfully with TEVA Pharmaceuticals, utilizing a team of experienced automation engineers to address the challenges within their existing Water for Injection (WFI) system. By modifying the Process Utility Control System (PUCS) and Utility Automation System (UAS), TEVA achieved effective control and monitoring of the Point of Use (POU) valves in both the core area and WFI distribution area. Thermo Systems delivered a comprehensive solution tailored to TEVA’s specific needs and requirements, encompassing panel fabrication, PLC programming, SCADA development, and more. These modifications improved the functionality and reliability of the WFI system, thereby enhancing TEVA’s operations.
