As you may have heard, computer and SCADA systems across the world are being attacked by the “WannaCry” ransomware. The attack is not yet over, as variants of the virus will be coming and will not be easy to stop, so prevention is key. Because Thermo Systems is a service and support provider for our customers, we felt the need to reach out and explain the measures that can be taken to avoid a significant loss of system data.
There are steps that can be taken to protect your SCADA systems, but they are more complex than a simple Windows update that can be done to your PC. Your system will need to be patched, and you must be very careful about installing these patches to your vendors’ and systems’ specifications. Windows patches have the potential to interrupt SCADA functionality, and attempting to install patches on these systems could do more damage than good if the system is not compatible.
If you’re feeling lost about what we’ve just told you, please do not hesitate to reach out to your contact at Thermo Systems for help. We can act quickly to survey your system, present an immediate solution, and protect you from the next round of cyber attacks.
Let us help you secure your system today to prevent future data loss and minimize plant downtime.
